Thomas More Law Center Appeals Ninth Circuits Anti-God Decision to the U.S. Supreme Court
ANN ARBOR, MI – The Thomas More Law Center announced today that it has appealed a controversial decision of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals to the U.S. Supreme Court. The appeal was filed in the case of Bradley Johnson v. Poway Unified School District late last week.
For the past twenty-five years, Bradley Johnson, a high school math teacher at the Poway School District located in California had been displaying red, white and blue banners in his classroom that contained patriotic phrases such as: “In God We Trust,” “One Nation Under God,” and “God Bless America.” ..Read more.

TMLC Files Brief Supporting Alabama’s Tough Law on Ilegal Immigration
ANN ARBOR, MI – Continuing its support of states that enact tough illegal immigration laws, the Thomas More Law Center, a national public interest law firm, based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, filed a brief supporting Alabama’s recently enacted law.
The Law Center’s brief was filed on Tuesday, January 3, 2012, in the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals in the case of United States v. Alabama, a case brought against the state of Alabama by the Department of Justice (“DOJ”) to stop it from enforcing laws against illegal immigrants found in that state. The Court of Appeals will hear oral arguments this March. [read brief here]
In September 2010, the Thomas More Law Center also filed a brief in the United States Supreme Court supporting Arizona’s illegal immigration law. That law was also challenged by the DOJ. In their brief, the Law Center argued for the need of the U.S. Supreme Court to review and reverse the decision of the lower courts. The U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to hear oral arguments in United States v. Arizona during its Spring 2012 term…Read more.
Student Sues After Punishment for His Religious Beliefs on Homosexuality

The Thomas More Law Center filed a federal lawsuit yesterday afternoon against the Howell Public School District located in Howell, Michigan, and teacher, Johnson (“Jay”) McDowell, for punishment and humiliation heaped on a student after he expressed his religious belief opposing homosexuality when asked by the teacher during class. The student, Daniel Glowacki, a junior at Howell High at the time of the incident, was specifically asked by McDowell about his feelings on homosexuals. Daniel responded that as a Catholic he was offended by the gay and lesbian lifestyle. Because of his answer, Daniel was ordered to leave the classroom under threat of suspension...Read more.
Widow of Fallen Marine Pleads with Marine Official to Keep Camp Pendleton Memorial Cross
In a letter written on behalf of a Marine widow and her seven year old son, the Thomas More Law Center urged camp commander, Colonel Nicholas F. Marano, USMC, to defend the memorial cross erected this past Veterans Day at the Camp Pendleton Marine Base in California. In a December 13th letter, California Congressman Duncan Hunter urged Colonel Marano to keep the Camp Pendleton Memorial cross. Congressman Hunter, a Marine combat veteran, served with fallen Marine Major Doug Zembiec who is honored at the memorial. Read his letter here.
Thomas More Law Center Sues State Department for Failure to Release Records Relating to the 2005 Insurgent Attack on Marines in Haditha, Iraq
Yesterday, the Thomas More Law Center filed a federal lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia against the U.S. Department of State for failing to provide records in its possession concerning an insurgent attack against U.S. Marines in Haditha, Iraq on November 19, 2005.
The Law Center successfully defended Lt. Col Jeffrey Chessani, USMC, the Battalion Commander of the Marines that responded to the insurgent ambush. The criminal charges against Chessani were dismissed on the grounds of unlawful command influence...Read more.
Victory for Pastor Jones; Court Rules that Pastor’s Constitutional Rights Were Violated
ANN ARBOR, MI – Thursday, November 10, 2011, Wayne County Circuit Judge Robert Ziolowski ruled that the Wayne County Prosecutor and Dearborn District Judge Mark W. Somers violated the constitutional rights of Pastor Terry Jones and his associate, Wayne Sapp, as a result of the “peace bond” proceedings brought against them this past Spring. The proceedings culminated with Judge Somers throwing Pastor Jones and Sapp behind bars because of their intended speech.

West Point Graduate and Former Army Ranger Appointed as Director of Mission Advancement for the Thomas More Law Center
ANN, ARBOR, MI —The Thomas More Law Center today announced the appointment of Thomas J. Lynch as its Director of Mission Advancement. Lieutenant Colonel Tom Lynch retired from the United States Army Reserves in August 2010. Lynch received his Regular Army commission in 1982 from the United States Military Academy at West Point, earning a Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
