Joint Cost Allocation Statement

The Thomas More Law Center (“Law Center”) applies the standards set by the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and allocates its joint activities.  Guidelines and criteria in accounting standards allow a portion of certain materials to be allocated between program expenses and fundraising expenses.  The Law Center’s allocation of joint costs is reviewed by an external independent auditor as part of an annual audit of the Law Center’s financial statements. With allocation of joint costs, our program service expenses are at 78%. Meaning 78% of all donations given to the Law Center go directly toward funding litigation and education concerning constitutional issues.

“The government of the United States has been emphatically termed a government of laws, and not of men. It will certainly cease to deserve this high appellation if the laws furnish no remedy for the violation of a vested legal right.”
— U.S. Supreme Court Justice John Marshall

The Law Center is a national not-for-profit public interest law firm based in Ann Arbor, Michigan.  Its mission is to restore and defend America’s Judeo-Christian heritage and moral values, and to preserve a strong national defense.  Establishment of the Law Center was inspired by the understanding that the Judiciary – that branch of government most insulated from the democratic process — has assumed the power to determine the major cultural issue facing Americans.  Clearly, the federal courts have assumed the dominant position in our National Government.

Moreover, the United States Supreme Court has long recognized that litigation by public interest law firms like the Thomas More Law Center is an orderly way of obtaining the vindication of fundamental legal and constitutional rights.

It is important to note, that although the Law Center represents specific individuals or organizations, the decisions in these cases establish legal precedents that have regional and national impact.  All of our representation is done without charge to the clients we represent.

“If we are to guard against ignorance and remain free, it is the responsibility of every American to be informed.”
– Thomas Jefferson

We understand that the Constitution is just a piece of paper with nice sounding words unless Americans are informed about the meaning of those words and afforded the resources to make those words come alive. Thus, education is a crucial component of our mission.

The Law Center informs Americans of their constitutional rights.  Through these efforts, American citizens are equipped to join the battle, exercise their rights, and seek redress when their rights are violated.

The Law Center’s educational activities include: published informational legal memos on the rights to religious freedom; brochures outlining threats and battles in the Culture War; resource pages where individuals can seek more information about important topics such as Common Core and test refusal; educational lectures by our lawyers to highlight major issues and cases; and informative mailings about such issues as radical Islam, attacks on Christians in our military, and Christian persecution.

We choose to “guard against ignorance” and educate Americans so that as a nation, we can remain free.

In a nutshell, Law Center lawyers fight for faith, family and freedom in courts throughout our Nation.
