Know the Enemy!
“Islam isn’t in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant. The Koran should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on Earth.”
Omar Ahmad, co-founder of Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), 1998
“I know that the Thomas More Law Center is aggressively advancing in courtrooms throughout America the same principles I fought for as a soldier for 22 years. … [It] has initiated and funded more cases challenging the Stealth Jihad being wages against our Nation than any other public interest law firm in America.”
Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Allen West
Sample of TMLC’s Cases Challenging the Internal Threat of Islam
▪ Lieutenant Colonel Matthew Dooley
TMLC began its representation of U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) Matthew Dooley in 2012 after he was fired as an instructor of a course on radical Islam because his course material was offensive to Muslims in America. LTC Dooley is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, and a highly decorated combat veteran. His outstanding performance was recognized by his selection as the aide-de-camp to 3 separate General officers. In November 2010 he was assigned to the National Defense University (NDU) to teach a course on Radical Islam. While an instructor at NDU, LTC Dooley received the highest faculty and student evaluation ratings among all active-duty military instructors,
On October 19, 2011, 57 Muslim organizations sent a letter to the Department of Defense. The letter demanded all training materials that they judged to be offensive to Islam be “purged” and instructors “effectively disciplined.”
As a result of the demands made in that letter, General Martin Dempsey, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, in an effort to appease Muslims and the White House, rushed to punish LTC Dooley. LTC Dooley was fired as an instructor and given a negative Officer Evaluation Report (OER) – the death knell of a military career – and reassigned outside NDU. TMLC has exhausted all of the Army’s administrative process to right this injustice to LTC Dooley; it is preparing a federal lawsuit.
In 2002, TMLC sued the Byron Union School District on Behalf of Christian Parents who objected to their 12 year old child being exposed to three weeks of intensive Islamic indoctrination. This was the “Islam Simulation” course that every 7th grader in Byron had to take. Here are some of the astonishing facts:
- In the introduction of the 113-page workbook distributed, students were told, “from the beginning you and your classmates will become Muslims.”
- Children were required to take Islamic names, wear Muslim clothes, and memorize verses from the Koran and parts of Islamic prayers.
- Students were required to repeat the phrase “Allah is the one true god and Muhammad is his prophet.”
- And the list goes on …
In 2014, TMLC announced its representation of John Kevin Wood, a former Marine, who was banned from entering school property after he objected to the Islamic indoctrination of his 11th grade daughter in her World History class and demanded that she be given alternative assignments. The school refused. Wood, who served in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm and lost friends in that action, saw firsthand the destruction caused in the name of Allah and that Islam is not “a religion of peace,” and would not budge from his position.
In response to parental concerns in 2011, TMLC successfully demanded the removal of an Islamic Proselytizing video from the 7th grade History curriculum in Olmsted Falls, Ohio. The video featured several instances of Muslim prayer and even a look at “how to pray in Islam”. The video portrays non-Muslims as uneducated bigots and Muslims as persecuted victims. At one point in the video, 7th grade students were told that if they hear someone say something wrong about Islam, it is their responsibility to fix it.
In April 2012, TMLC filed a federal lawsuit against CAIR and Allegan, MI police and School officials. Acting on a letter from CAIR, these officials shut down a public event at the city’s High School that exposed the threat of Sharia Law. The police pretext for shutting down the event was concern for public safety. The lawsuit claims violations of Constitutional rights to Free Speech and Assembly.
In 2008, TMLC filed a federal lawsuit against the Department of Treasury and Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve challenging a portion of the emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 that appropriated $40 billion in taxpayer money to fund the federal government’s majority ownership interest in AIG. The lawsuit claims the government, through its ownership of AIG, engages in Sharia-based Islamic religious activities.
TMLC filed a federal lawsuit on behalf of Jesse Nieto, a former Marine and a civilian employee at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Mr. Nieto’s son, Marc, and 16 of his shipmates were killed by Islamic terrorists when they bombed the U.S.S. Cole in 2000. Base authorities ordered Jesse to remove several anti-terrorist decals from his vehicle because they deemed them “offensive.” The decals contained messages such as: “Remember the USS Cole, 12 Oct 2000,” “No Quarter Islamic Terrorist,” and “We Died, They Rejoiced.”
In March 2011, TMLC announced it joined Tulsa, Oklahoma attorney Scott Wood to defend Captain Fields’ constitutional right not to become a propaganda prop for the local mosque. Police Captain Paul Fields refused to order his officers to attend an Islamic propaganda event staged by a local mosque with ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. As a result, Fields, a 16-year police veteran, has been stripped of his command.
Islamic organizations use lawsuits as a form of “legal jihad” to silence public discussion of Islamic terrorist threats. In one such case, seven Dallas-area Islamic organizations filed a defamation lawsuit against internet journalist Joe Kaufmann. TMLC acted as lead counsel for Kaufmann in the case. In January 2010, the Texas Supreme Court denied a petition for review of a Second District Court of Appeals opinion which dismissed the defamation lawsuit.
▪ Fighting Imposition of Sharia Law in Dearborn, MI
Dearborn, Michigan has gained a national reputation for its intimidation of Christian evangelists during the city’s annual Arab International Festival. That’s because Dearborn has one of the largest populations of Muslims in America.
TMLC defended four Christian Missionaries arrested at the annual Arab Festival by Dearborn Police in June 2010, as one of them was peacefully discussing his Christian faith with a group of Muslim youth. All four were thrown in jail and charged with the crime of Breach of the Peace. And after a week-long jury trial, all four were found not guilty of Breach of the Peace.
In April 2012, TMLC filed a lawsuit in the Federal District Court against the City of Dearborn, and its police chief over the city’s tactic aimed at stopping Pastor Terry Jones from speaking out against Sharia law in front of the city’s mosque. The city demanded Pastor Jones sign a ‘Hold Harmless’ Agreement before they would permit him to speak. TMLC obtained a Temporary Restraining Order from the court that prevented the city from banning Pastor Jones’s speech.
TMLC filed a federal lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of Dearborn’s actions in threatening Pastor Saieg with arrest if he passed out religious material on public sidewalks during the annual Arab festival. In May 2011, the appellate court ruled that Pastor Saieg clearly has a free speech right to distribute religious literature on Dearborn’s public sidewalks and evangelize Muslims during the annual Arab Festival.
